Eulogy by Rabbinic Chaplain Sandra Wortzel

Hello, I am rabbinic chaplain Sandra Wortzel and on behalf of Mario’s beautiful and loving family, I want to welcome you and thank you for your presence here today.

The Hebrew word for funeral is levayah, which means “accompaniment.”  Both in life and in death being alone is one of our greatest fears.

We are here together to comfort one another and to be inspired by a man who was vivacious, optimistic, caring, funny and wonderful and possessed great devotion to his wife and family, and an abiding kindness for everyone he encountered.

Today we mourn the passing, celebrate the life, and together “accompany” Mario Torres Soria on his journey to olam haba, the world to come.  Mario lived a long and fruitful life and was cherished and adored by his extensive family.

Born August 22, 1927, Mario was 87 years and 8 months old, when he peacefully took his last breath in the comfort and safety of Via Elegante assisted living home, on Tuesday April 14th, around 9:30 in the evening, with his daughter Monique by his side.  He was visited that day by his Tucson grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly said their goodbyes to him.
